Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) has introduced a new portfolio of 16-to-24-bit, ultra-high-precision successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) that simplify the process of designing ADCs into instrumentation, industrial, and health-care applications. The new family of SAR ADCs feature ADI’s Easy Drive technology and Flexi-SPI serial peripheral interface (SPI) that expands the selection of directly compatible companion products and eases host processor and ADC integration.
ADI said the “Easy Drive technology maintains device performance while eliminating many traditional system-level design challenges such as strict layout guidelines, rigid digital interface timing requirements, and the complicated selection of companion products.”
The new pin-compatible family is comprised of the AD4630-24, AD4030-24, AD4630-16, AD4632-24, AD4032-24, and AD4632-16. Available now are the dual-channel AD4630-24 and single-channel AD4030-24 devices. The 24-bit, dual-channel AD4630-24 features simultaneous sampling and a sample rate of two Megasamples (Msps) per second per channel. The 24-bit, single-channel AD4030-24 also provides a sample rate of 2 Msps.
In addition, the AD4630-24 claims an industry-leading accuracy (INL) rating of 0.9 parts per million (ppm), with a typical performance of 0.1 ppm, which is a 4× improvement when compared to other solutions. The AD4630-24 integrates a reference buffer and all critical decoupling components into a single chip, providing a 2× improvement in solution density compared with comparable devices, said ADI. The signal-to-noise ratio is 105.7 dB typical.
The AD4630-24 (64-ball, 7 × 7 × 1.72-mm CSP-BGA package) is priced at $30.95 in quantities of 1,000. An evaluation kit (EVAL-AD4630-24FMCZ) is priced at $199. The additional SAR ADCs – AD4630-16 (16-bit, dual-channel, 2 Msps), AD4632-24 (24-bit, dual-channel, 500 ksps), AD4032-24 (24-bit, single-channel, 500 ksps), and AD4632-16 (16-bit, dual-channel, 500 ksps) – will launch throughout the year.
