Ultra-low-noise regulators meet EMI, multi-gigabit SerDes specs

Regulators attenuate radiated and conducted wideband harmonic energies

The LTM4606 and LTM4612 ultra-low-noise dc/dc regulators deliver low-noise power by attenuating both radiated energy and conducted wideband harmonic energy. The LTM4606 regulates outputs from 0.6 to 5 V, and has been verified by Xilinx, demonstrating high-speed multi-gigabit/s digital data transmission in SerDes (serializer-deserializer) and RocketIo applications. Both devices have received CISPR22 Class B certification.

The regulators are housed in a 15 x 15 x 2.8-mm land grid-array. The LTM4606 operates from a 4.5 to 28-V input supply, regulates an output voltage from 0.6 to 5 V, and delivers up to 6 A to the load. The LTM4612 operates from a 5 to 36V input supply, regulates an output voltage from 3.3 to 15 V, and delivers up to 5 A to the load.

The parts are encapsulated in an SMT plastic package and incorporate the inductor, MOSFETs, regulator IC, and compensation network. They eliminate the need for external filters, magnetic shields, and ferrite beads. Controlling the slew rate of the MOSFET gate drive, adding input pi-filters, careful layout, shielded inductor, and component selection inside these regulators help controls any noise. The modules operate over –40° to 125°C as well as –55° to 125°C. (Ea/1,000: LTM4606EV, $16.50; LTM4612EV, $19.89 — available now.)
