Ultraflat SMT MEMS mics cost less than $2

Low-power multichip units provide digital output for a 100-Hz to 10-kHz input range

Using separate CMOS MEMS and digital chips in a single package, the surface-mount TRMO-4713 series microphones measure just 1.25 mm high, with a 4.72 x 3.30-mm footprint. Units are priced at under $2, even in small quantities.

Said to be 10 times smaller than ECM microphones with similar performance, the omnidirectional devices provide a digital output for direct integration with other logic devices. They work over a −40° to 100°C range from a 1.5 to 3.6-Vdc supply, consuming 0.2 mA.

Off-the-shelf units have a 100 Hz to 10-kHz bandwidth with −42-dB sensitivity and are RoHS compliant. ($1.50 ea / 1,000 — samples available now, prod qty 4 to 6 weeks ARO.)
