Ultrathin LEDs deliver high brightness in demanding apps
Using InGaN/TAG-on-Sapphire technology in a CLCC-2 flat ceramic package, devices deliver 5,600 to 14,000 mcd with 25-K/W thermal resistance
With a an ultralow profile of just 0.75 mm, the surface-mount VLMW84..series high-intensity white LEDs employ InGaN/TAG-on-Sapphire technology in a CLCC-2 flat ceramic package to provide 5,600 to 14,000 mcd. The devices have a low, 25-K/W thermal resistance and the 3.3 x 3.4-mm ceramic SMT package lets them handle high current for a maximum light output while maintaining a 50,000-hour service life.
The devices’ characteristics suit them for space-limited applications where thermal management is key. Designed to reduce costs in high-volume apps, the LEDs will likely see use in flashes for cameras, emergency lighting and signs, auto instrument panels, and vehicle exterior lighting such as brake lights and turn signals.
An ecofriendly alternative to CCFL backlighting, the RoHS-compliant LEDs offers solid efficiencies in brightness, lifetime, and power savings. They have a 27,000-mlm typical luminous flux, 40-lm/W optical efficiency at 100 mA, ≤1.6 luminous intensity ratio (IV max/IV min), up to 5 Vf , and 60° half-intensity angle.
The LEDs are compatible with IR-reflow soldering (CECC 00802/J-STD-020C), preconditioned to JEDEC Level 4, AEC-Q101 automotive qualified, and have an 1-kV ESD-withstand voltage per JESD22-A114-B. ($0.75 — available now; large qty, 8 weeks ARO.)
