USB-to-fiber converter yields 3 Mbits/s

The Model 4165 fiber-optic/USB converter changes USB 2.0 compliant data to a serial asynchronous interface over fiber with a data rate of 300 bits/s to 3 Mbits/s. It uses 820 nm/850 nm, multimode fiber cable and ST connectors with a 3 Mbit/s link distance of 5.35 kM at 25°C and 3.75 kM at -40° to +85°C.

The 5 x 4.25 x 1.4 in. unit has ESD protection on the USB connector and it’s power supply has 3 Kvdc isolation. The device takes 1.5 W and is also available as a board level product. ($415 — available now.)
