User-Friendly Messenger App Secures Your Privacy

Don’t like being monitored? Enter Heml.is, a messenger app that will protect you from being spied on

After the eye-opening leak from Edward Snowden earlier this year, three Swedish technology entrepreneurs were hit with a big idea. Seeing that the world needed a way to keep their privacy safe from the government and other types of spying, they began fundraising for Heml.is, their secure, encrypted instant-messaging service.

Protecting your privacy

Hemlis, which means “Secret” in Swedish, reached its goal of $152,000 in an impressive 36 hours. Though to some it may seem like just another instant-messaging app, the team behind Heml.is claims that nobody, including themselves, will be able to listen in on anyone's conversations. They won't even store messages on their servers once they've been delivered. The developers behind the app agree that privacy should be yours and yours to keep.

What's to come

The free app will be available at the App Store and on Google Play real soon, but as of right now, the Heml.is team encourages future users to pre-register their usernames before the app is released. Backers of the secure messenger will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to do so along with codes that can unlock extended features of Heml.is, such as being able to send image messages. As with most apps, there will be small fees to unlock certain features, which will be determined once Hemli.is is up and running. According to the developers, the money will be used to fund the continuing development and infrastructure of the app. Your data will never be sold, and you'll never be bombarded with ads.

Watch the video below to see what the creators of Heml.is have to say about their groundbreaking app.
