Vayyar unveils mmWave 3D imaging SoC evaluation kit

Gives engineers the ability to test-drive and scale Vayyar’s 3D imaging technology for new or existing products

By Gina Roos, editor-in-chief

Vayyar Imaging has launched its new mmWave Evaluation Kit (EVK), the Walabot-60Ghz, providing engineers and developers access to the company’s high-resolution 3D imaging chip , together with an SDK/API. The evaluation kit delivers full radar imaging on a board with an exceptionally wide field of view and high-resolution imaging, enabling engineers to move quickly from a new product idea to demonstration.

The kit includes a highly advanced chip with a 40-transceiver array (40 Tx/Rx), complete with field-of-view (FOV) embedded antennas and wide-band 60-GHz imaging radar. Click here for a video on how the Walabot-60Ghz EVK works.

The Walabot-60Ghz EVK delivers an exceptionally wide field of view along with high-resolution imaging, said Vayyar. This enables the development of advanced applications for a variety of industries such as smart home, robotics, retail, and medical. Potential uses, said the company, include obstacle avoidance, perimeter protection, ultrasonic replacement, automatic door openers, people tracking, posture detection, short-range imaging, and point cloud technologies.

The Walabot-60Ghz system includes:

  • The Walabot-60Ghz RF sensor unit
  • The EVK Engine: host software that performs signal processing functions
  • Web GUI: user interface client software that communicates with the EVK Engine via a TCP/IP connection
  • API Client: optional customer-developed software that communicates with the EVK Engine via a TCP/IP connection

“Vayyar’s new evaluation kit, the Walabot-60Ghz, brings our groundbreaking chip technology into a format that gives engineers and software developers unprecedented access to our 3D radio-wave−based imaging sensor technology,” said Ofer Familier, director of business development at Vayyar, in a press release. “In doing so, it gives them sophisticated capabilities, empowering end users to unleash their creativity in developing new applications that can be incorporated into existing systems or used to create new products.”

Vayyar will showcase the Walabot-60Ghz EVK at CES 2019, Jan. 8−11, in Las Vegas, Nevada (Booth #42161).
