Vertical launch connectors ease design and installation

Southwest Microwave claims the industry’s first solderless, board-mounted 1-mm vertical launch connector

By Alex Pluemer, contributing writer

Southwest Microwave recently introduced what the company is calling the first solderless, board-mounted 1.0-mm vertical launch connector on the market. Southwest believes that the new, reusable connectors will deliver optimal signal integrity for microstrip or grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) designs.

The new vertical launch connector offers a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 1.35:1 max across 70 to 105 GHz and a VSWR of 1.6:1 max across the full 110-GHz bandwidth. Southwest also offers 1.85-mm DC to 67-GHz board-mounted vertical launch connectors with a 1.25:1 max VSWR and 2.92-mm DC to 40-GHz connectors with a VSWR of 1.15:1 max.

Parts include:

The board-mounted connectors can be installed without soldering and feature a standard two-hole flange-mounting footprint. The flange-mounting holes are tapped so that screws can be inserted from the bottom of the circuit board. Connectors can be supplied with or without screws for PCBs of varying thickness.

The board-mounted vertical launch connectors will be on display at DesignCon 2019, Booth #602, Santa Clara, California. For more information, submit a contact request at www.southwestmicrowave.com/interconnect.
