Vibration motor driver extends battery life

Operating from 1.8 to 3.6 V, the MLX90283 vibration motor driver IC integrates a Hall-effect sensor plus digital and power driver circuitry into an ultrathin QFN package and introduces the proprietary “Active Start” design to improve single-phase vibration motor startup reliability. The part switches off its outputs when the torque approaches zero and delays the next switchover using a “Ffreewheel delay” of 92 µs typ.

As the device activates the “Freewheel” when the torque is close to zero, the motor’s rotational speed is unchanged. The part’s “Freewheel” intelligent driving enables reducing the average motor current consumption up to 10 mA, while keeping the same rotation speed. ($0.325 ea/5,000—available now.)
