Video decoder chipset tackles high def

The BCM70010/BCM70012 high-definition video decoder chipset enables mainstream PCs with integrated graphics to play back high-definition content from a Blu-ray Disc, an HD DVD, or HD downloaded or broadcast content, off-loading the CPU. The multiformat (VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2) chipset provides a hardware security processor for AES-128, and other encrypted content, and has a PCI Express interface.

The ICs handle H.264/AVC HP at L4.1, 1080i, 40 Mbits/s; SMPTE VC-1 AP at L3, 1080i, 40 Mbits/s; H.264/AVC HP at L3.0, 480i; H.264/AVC HP at L3.2, 720p, while using just 2.3 W. It is also available in module form as the BCM970012NB-PCIe mini card, BCM970012PQ-PCIe desktop adapter, or BCM970012IC ExpressCard 34 format card.
