While it’s been nearly four decades since Star Wars first appeared on movie screens, the world is still without a fully-functioning C-3PO, and while space research technology has advanced considerably, we haven’t done much in the way of sending humans to another galaxy far, far away.
There is one company out there that is working hard to realize the ideas in Star Wars for today’s tech enthusiast — Haier Asia, which just announced their latest creation: a fully-mobile, head swiveling, beep-chirping R2-D2 refrigerator.
The Japanese-based company created the beverage-carrying bot as part of a deal with Disney. CEO Yoshiaki Ito showed it off during a presentation in Tokyo last week, during which he made it a point to tell the audience the bot was not conceptual, but a real product that is expected to be available to consumers in 2016.
