Vishay Launches Miniaturized Encoder/Decoder for Infrared Wireless Communication in 4-mm by 4-mm by 0.75-mm Package

Vishay broadens its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of a new miniaturized encoder/decoder for serial infrared (IrDA) wireless communication, the TOIM5232

The new device provides proper pulse shaping of RS-232 data signals for serial infrared (SIR) IrDA transceivers and supports data rates from 1.2 kbit/s to 115.2 kbit/s. Offered in the QFN (quad flat no leads) package, which measures 4 mm by 4 mm by 0.75 mm, the TOIM5232 features the same operation and performance as the TOIM4232 in a fraction of the space.

Typical applications for TOIM5232 will include wirelessly enabled data loggers and utility meters; IrDA communication in mobile phones, notebook computers, PDAs, and other consumer electronics; and medical applications such as glucose meters and home diagnostic meters.
