The Vishay Dale PCNM series of thin-film chip resistors are non-magnetic — and this may be more important than you think. The non-magnetic properties eliminate the effects of stray magnetic fields on performance of X-ray and MRI machines and they put a halt to passive intermodulation issues in cell phone base stations and amplifiers.
The aluminum nitride substrates of these resistors have enlarged backside terminations to reduce the thermal resistance between the topside resistor layer and the solder joint on the end user’s circuit assembly. This provides four times the power-handling capability of previous-generation non-magnetic resistors.
The devices offer power ratings of 2 and 6 W in 1206 and 2512 case sizes, respectively, and have a TCR of ± 25 ppm/°C. They come with tolerances of ±0.1% to 5%. The resistors operate over a temperature range of –55° to +155°C and with values from 2 Ω to 30.1 kΩ, and voltage ratings from 75 to 200 V. All versions are flame-resistant in accordance with UL 94 V-0. From $0.60 ea/1,000.
