VMEbus to VMEbus serial link is fast

For long-distance VMEbus to VMEbus serial communication, the DSSDL board
conforms to the synchronous serial data link (SSDL) for 40-Mbit/s
transfers over 100 ft of 100- twisted-pair cable. At 400 ft, the data
rate is 20 Mbits/s, and at 4,000 ft, the rate is 1 Mbit/s. The DSSDL
offers two full-duplex serial ports with programmable clock rates for
varying cable lengths. Each channel has 8 Kbytes of zero-fall-through FIFO
memory at the transmitter and receiver ends. Loopback test capability is
provided for built-in testing, and the link is fully optically isolated
from the VMEbus. ($1,257–3 weeks ARO.) Dynatem, Mission Viejo, CA
