Company now focusing on device for electric vehicles, and enhanced version of SoundRacer VX

So, picking your kids up in the school pick-up line in your conservative Honda Odyssey may not be how you envisioned spending “the best years of your life.” Sure, when you were young and single you could have driven that hot sports car and revved your engine at every stoplight, and that would have been great if you’d only had the resources to pay for that kind of car back then. Dads with minivans around the world REJOICE! With the SoundRacer VX, you can plug the device into your cigarette lighter and then choose from half a dozen high-performance engine sounds to play inside your car. Your kids will think you’re awesome.

The original device was released several years ago and could read the revs of a car engine through the alternator, then expel the sound of a V8 monster truck through your car’s radio. Since that time, the company has released several additional engine sounds from which to choose, including a Ferrari V12, a Mustang V8, a LFA V10J, a Harley Davidson and a Gallardo V10.

Today, through a sister business called EVEESS, the Sweden-based SoundRacer team is hard at work creating the same high-performance engine sound device to deliver to the electric vehicle market. This one will also feature an external audio soundtrack intended to alert pedestrians to a quiet EV’s presence. Additionally, SoundRacer recently debuted a mobile phone app that connects a Bluetooth ODBII diagnostics device to your car’s engine management system, allowing you to play engine sounds through your phone’s audio system.

In addition, SoundRacer is now raising funds via Kickstarter to build an updated version that will store even more engine sounds to choose between. The Sound Racer VX will come pre-loaded with all the original sounds, plus the sound of a Japanese sports bike, and will also include a MicroSD card slot that will allow you to add new sounds in the future. This new version of the SoundRacer VX will offer a USB socket for device charging and will also function as an FM transmitter for music.

There are only a few more days to back the campaign on Kickstarter. The company recommends checking out this site, which lists the car models that are known to be able to use the SoundRacer VX, before making your pledge.
