VXS board sets performance standard for signal, data processing

Features four dual-core PowerPC processors

Said to set a new standard in performance for demanding signal- and data-processing applications, the DSP220 6U VXS (VITA 41.2) multicomputer features four single- or dual-core Freescale PowerPC 8641 processor nodes, plus an XMC slot. Each PowerPC e600 core is clocked at 1 GHz, and each processor node has two 256-Mbyte banks of DDR2 SDRAM, 2 Gbytes total per card, as standard. Up to 8 Gbytes of SDRAM per board are optionally available.

The multifabric data plane interfaces include Serial RapidIO to all 8641 nodes, the XMC site and the back plane. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports connect to all nodes and off board. The card is available in six ruggedization levels, including air-, spray-, and conduction-cooled for extended temperature operation, and resistance to shock and vibration.

PowerPC AltiVec instruction set support for advanced vector and floating-point operations is provided on each processor core. VxWorks and LynxOS board-support packages are available. (From $21,106available now.)
