Nico Gerard, a California-based luxury watch company, introduced the Skyview Pinnacle, a regular analog watch with a band that has the ability to attach a 38mm Apple Watch on its opposing side.
Like the Apple watch, the Skyview Pinnacle comes in a variety of different models; these include a black one for $9,300, a blue for $9,500 and an 18 karat gold version for $112,000 with the limited edition Gold Apple Watch. Unless you’re Donald Trump, you’re probably not getting one.
So how practical is this watch really? While many watch companies have worked to intertwine the look of classic watches and smartwatches, Nico Gerard may have taken things too far. For one, the bulkiness of this watch can’t be comfortable. Two watch faces puts you at risk for more scratches, especially if one is always resting on a surface. Lastly, holding your palm up to view and manage your Apple watch is probably annoying.
But, there are some upsides to it: The Skyview Pinnacle comes with a Swiss-made automatic mechanical movement, which takes six months to produce —possibly the reason why its price is so high. On the opposite side of the band is the Apple Watch, which will hold the same functionality as a standard one. With this set-up, you will be able to tell the time by looking at either side of your wrist. Whoa.
Watches are available for preorder with a minimum of a $200 deposit. The black variant will ship in about 10 to 12 months, the blue in 10 months, and the costly gold version that goes for $112,000 will arrive in six weeks. So if you have the need for a dual-sided watch that screams, ‘Look at me!’ and costs the price of most cars, have yourself at it.
