Web site expands circuit-protection solutions

No one can deny that the Internet can greatlysimplify the process of finding products. But not all Websites—or user experiences—are created equal:not everyone handles their content as efficiently as the next guy.But the Littlefuse Web site (littelfuse.com
) seems to be on the right track.

I recently had the pleasure of being“walked through” the site’s newApplication Design Center. More than simply a design center,it’s a revamped site that leverages thecompany’s circuit-protection knowledge and expertise tooffer solutions rather than just products.

“We wanted to focus more on the customer and do a betterjob of finding out what they need,” said LittelfuseE-Marketing Manager Tom Hovey. “We’ve made iteasier for [EEs] to get what they’re lookingfor.”Displayed prominently on the site’s homepage is a section that queries, “Need Help with YourDesign?” A click in this section brings the user to abrowsable list of 36 applications that includes cell phone, powersupply, LCD TV, printer, set-top box, and satellite radio.

The user is then taken to a high-level schematicshowing the various circuit types and components in a chosenapplication, and possible points in the design needing circuitprotection. A click on one of these points brings the Web user tovarious potential solutions. Design notes offer general informationabout how to protect the application, explain the solution choice, discuss regulatory issues, and provide links to relatedsolutions.

According to Hovey, the company based itssuggestions on real-world solutions it already has in place withsome of its customers. Also upgraded on the site are the searchcapabilities, which include a stronger parts comparison and searchby part number functionality.
