Wi-Fi dual-band front-end suits mobile apps

Housed in a 4 x 4 x 0.6-mm package, the AWL9966 dual-band front-end IC provides all the RF amplifiers and switches required for a compact, high-performance Wi-Fi front end, complete with an integrated Bluetooth path. The part supports the 802.11n (MIMO) WiFi standard, and is optimized for transmit and receive applications in both the 2.4-GHz (802.11b/g) and 5-GHz (802.11a) bands.

Specifications include a linear output power of 18 dBm for 802.11a at 3% EVM with 160-mA total current, and 20 dBm of linear output power for 802.11g at 3% EVM with 190-mA total current. Total noise figure is 2.6 dB at 2.4 GHz with 12 dB gain and 3.0 dB at 5.5 GHz with 14 dB gain, insertion loss is 0.8 dB in the Bluetooth Tx/Rx path, and linear power gain is 31 dB at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
