Wireless connectivity ICs let coin cells last
Suited for consumer medical, mobile accessories, and sports and wellness applications, the CC2540 single-mode Bluetooth low-energy system-on-chip and the CC257x ANT network processor can enable target applications to operate on a coin cell for more than a year. The CC2540 integrates the controller, host, programmable flash memory, and application in a 6 x 6-mm QFN-40 package. Features include a link budget up to 97 dB and a low power of 19.6 mA in active RX mode and 24 mA in active TX mode.
Also housed in QFN packages, the CC257x is a dual-chip solution (2.4-GHz ANT network processor plus MSP430 host microcontroller) offering a link budget up to 95 dB. (http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/cc2540.pdf
