Wirewound inductors achieve high current rating
1210-sized parts help to maximize battery power efficiency in compact digital devices
With a 3.2 x 2.5-mm footprint and maximum height of 1.7 mm, the BRL3225 wirewound chip inductors are offered in a 2.4-A (1.0 µH) version, said to be the industry’s highest current rating in a 1210 form factor. The inductors help designers maximize battery power efficiency of switch-mode dc/dc converters in compact digital devices such as digital cameras, portable games, and hard-disk drives.
The advancements were made by optimization of the inductors’ core shape and electrode structure using a unique sleeveless square-core winding to eliminate wasted space. Thickening the lead wire inside the inductors helps achieve the lower DCRs.
Inductors in the BRL3225 family are available in inductances from 1.0 to 100 µH, DCRs from 0.043 to 2.50, and saturation currents from 2.4 to 0.27 A. (Samples, $0.20 — available now.)
