Virtual reality (VR) is an immersive and quickly growing technology that’s showing no signs of stopping. It’s wiggled its way into many industries, such as entertainment, medical, and education. Though nothing short of impressive, there’s one obvious drawback to today’s most popular VR headsets, including the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, and the Samsung VR: they’re big and bulky. But that isn’t so for Chinese company Dlodlo’s V One, the world’s thinnest and lightest VR headset.

Looking like a futuristic pair of stylish sunglasses, the V One is a standalone headset, meaning you don’t need a separate device, such as a smartphone, to use it. The brains of the gadget are located in an accompanying Android-based processing unit that’s about the size of an iPod touch. Made from carbon fiber and weighing in at a mere 3.1 oz., the V One’s lenses are 0.68-in. thick. Better yet, there are no elastic bands to strap around your head.
With a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution display, the V One presents a sharp view. It has a 105° field-of-view, which is wider than Samsung’s new Gear VR (101°), and it also packs a 9-axis sensor for head-tracking. And if you’re concerned about light leaking through the top, bottom, and sides of the headset — don’t be. The device includes guards that shield it from unwanted light during use.

The unit contains a quad-core processor and a 3,000 mAh battery, which, according to the company, can last between two and three hours of VR video playback. The headset is also compatible with PCs and smartphones through a single cable.
Initially the headset will be sold through Kickstarter, starting at $559, which is cheaper than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Along with the headset, Dlodlo's planning to launch a VR app store for users to discover new VR content.
Looks like VR is going from geeky to stylish.
