Looking for a camera tiny in size, but with the same quality and options you get from a traditional camera? Turn your head to the E1 from Z Camera set to be released in November 2015. The camera aims to reap the benefits of a compact camera without losing the characteristics of a high-performance device.
Typically, using a small camera risks compromising your image and video quality, whereas larger cameras usually have high-definition image quality, but are bulky and heavy, costing a fortune. Z Camera set out to make a device with the best of both worlds. E1 by Z Cam is the smallest 4k ultra high-definition camera with an exchangeable lens system, as well as the smallest camera in the world that features a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor and advanced auto focus technology.
This camera is ideal for those looking to expand their aerial shots and is perfectly suited for drones, having the option to be mounted to capture shots from different perspectives. Once released, its compact size and durability will prove useful to filmmakers and videographers.
So what video credentials does it possess? The E1 is able to shoot 4k (4096 x 2160) footage at 24 fps (frames per second) and 3840 x 2160 UHD (ultra-high definition) footage at 30 fps and can record Full HD (high definition) 1080p and HD 720p video at up to 60 fps. What is also set to be soon added is high frame-rate HD 720p footage at 120 fps for producing slow motion footage.
In order to reduce image noise, advanced 3D filters with motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) technology are used. The camera can uphold high image quality up to ISO 6,400 and has a top ISO setting of 102,400. Still images can be shot in RAW or JPG and in burst JPG mode at 15 fps.
Another neat future to this tiny camera is that it can be linked to your smartphone. Android and iOS apps allow you to control, manage, and livestream content via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices. A fully charged battery can give you up to 80 minutes of 4k recording, but this device can also run on a direct AC power source.
And they’re not kidding when they call this the world’s smallest camera. Weighing just 7.4 ounces with battery included, the camera itself measures 2.9 in x 2.2 in x 1.9 in. It features magnesium frame and records to microSD cards. The E1 has a 2.5-inch LCD with a 320 x 240 resolution on the backside.
Funding for this project has been done through Kickstarter and will continue through to August 15, 2015. It has already exceeded its target of $42,000.
