World’s smallest inductors have record high frequency

Murata’s LQP01HQ series are 0.2mm tall.

Murata’s newest LQP01HQ series high-frequency inductors achieve the same high-Q characteristics as the company’s leading 01005 size LQP02TN series inductors for half the footprint.

Officially 008004 size, the LQP01HQ series are the world’s smallest inductors at 0.25×0.125mm. Similar to the 01005 series, the 008004 inductors have Q=15. Its 01005 existing devices also include LQP02TN (0.2mm tall, Q=21) and LQP02HQ (0.3mm tall, Q=29).

“High-frequency wireless communication circuits demand inductors with high-Q characteristics for impedance matching and similar purposes in order to reduce circuit losses and achieve greater efficiency,” said the team behind introducing the new inductors.

While the LQP01HQ series data sheet is not yet available, known data suggests the inductors will operate at at least 1GHz.

The LQP01HQ series are expected to be available by August 2016 and will include 25 versions with inductance ratings ranging from 0.3nH to 2.7nH. A range extension of up to 10nH is projected to be added to the series by the end of 2016.

Applications in mobile devices, such as smartphones (WCDMA, GSM, LTE) and wearables (PA, ANT, SAW, GPS modules) can be expected, as well as in Bluetooth and WLAN modules.
