Chips are designed for internet connected systems in security, storage, robotic, and communication applications

The EP80579 processor family targets security, storage, communications, and industrial robotics embedded systems and features the Intel x86 architecture and an extended 7-year lifecycle manufacturing support guarantee. Based on the Pentium M processor, the devices have a 64-bit memory controller hub with ECC, three 10/100/1000 Ethernet MACs supporting RGMII or RMII and Management Data Input/Output, a PCIe root complex interface in 1×8, 2×4, or 2×1, real-time clock support, and 1588 time synchronization.

The 1,088-ball BGA-packaged ICs operate at 600 MHz to 1.2 GHz and take 11 to 19 W (TDP). They have two USB 2.0 and two SATA Gen2 interfaces, 36 GPIO, two CAN 2.0b interfaces, and one synchronous serial port.

Four of the eight versions include QuickAssist technology that simplifies the use and deployment of security and packet accelerators. Upcoming versions will be based on the Atom processor core. ($40 to $95 ea/prod qty — available now.)
