Xeon C5500/C3500 processors target embedded apps

The Xeon C5500/C3500 series processors (previously code named Jasper Forest) target embedded system products in storage, on-demand video services, and wireless radio areas. They are paired with the 3420 chipset and for the first time integrate PCIe and all I/O functions onto a Xeon dual-processing chip.

The ICs use DDR3 memory and incorporate non-transparent bridging, hardware RAID, and asynchronous DRAM self-refresh. The eight versions of the processor range from the single-core LC3518, which takes only 23 W, to the quad-core eight-thread EC5549, which needs 85 W. They provide a 1.9x increase in performance/watt over the previous version. The devices have advanced Hyper-Threading, virtualization, and QuickPath interconnect technologies and include 7+ years extended lifecycle product support. ($192 to $530 ea/1,000 — available now.)
