Yokogawa upgrades optical spectrum analyzer

The AQ6370E is an upgraded version of Yokogawa’s AQ6370D optical spectrum analyzer, with enhanced performance and usability.

For nearly ten years, Yokagawa Test & Measurement’s AQ6370D optical spectrum analyzer has been a popular choice for R&D and production testing. Now, an AQ6370E upgrade offers a variety of new features to streamline development and the production process. Used in industry, research institutions and universities, the spectrum analyzer can characterize a variety of components including lasers for optical communications, optical transceivers and optical analyzers.

The new model features a wavelength range of 600 nm to 1700 nm, targeting telecom and general-purpose applications. The free-space input design allows for testing of both DWDM-class single-mode and VCSEL-sourced multimode fibers in one single model.

There are two models available: standard and high performance. The high-performance model provides a higher wavelength accuracy of ±0.008 nm typ. (C band) and the standard model’s accuracy is ±0.015 nm typ. (S+C+L band). Additional features of the high-performance version include a wavelength resolution of 0.02 nm, close-in dynamic range of 78 dB typical, a level range of 20 to -90 dBm, and a high close-in dynamic range (HCDR) mode.

There is also a side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) mode that reduces SMSR measurement time, and an APP mode that provides a device under test (DUT) specific user interface to navigate from configuration settings to test result output. Customers unfamiliar with optical spectrum analyzers can use it easily.

The AQ6370E can measure high power sources including optical amplifiers and pump lasers for Raman amplifiers, as well as very weak optical signals. Measurement sensitivity can be selected from seven categories according to test and measurement requirements.

The high-resolution, responsive 10.4-inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen is more intuitive and easier to use. Measurement conditions, perform analysis, and the optical spectrum view can all be set by the user. In the optical spectrum view, the waveform view can be zoomed or shifted by a simple tap and drag.

The analyzer is currently available. The AQ6370E is expected to meet the CE marking requirements soon.
