Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corp. has expanded its microstepping motor driver family with the introduction of the TC78H670FTG . With a maximum rating of 18 V/2.0 A, the new driver IC can drive a 128 microstepping motor with a power supply ranging from 2.5 V to 16 V.
The device can be used in a variety of USB-powered, battery-powered, and standard 9-V to 12-V system devices, and it can also be used with a 1.8-V interface, allowing connection to various hosts and microcontrollers. Product applications include cameras, security cameras, portable printers, handheld scanners, pico-projectors, and smartphones.
Built on Toshiba’s newest DMOS process, the TC78H670FTG offers an excellent figure-of-merit low on-resistance (RON = 0.48 Ω @VM = 12 V) and ultra-low standby current of 0.1 μA. The motor driver is housed in a compact QFN16 (3 × 3-mm) package and eliminates the need for a current-sense resistor by incorporating a current-detection part that contributes to lower cost, a smaller component footprint, and PCB routing space savings, said Toshiba.
The TC78H670FTG is available in mass production.
