First automated EMC test system launched for both 5G frequency ranges

Rohde & Schwarz claims the first automated EMC test system for both 5G FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges

By Gina Roos, editor-in-chief

The R&S TS8996 RSE  test system from Rohde & Schwarz is the first turnkey solution to cover the entire 5G FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges for radiated spurious emission (RSE) measurements. The automated test system measures spurious emissions from 5G components and devices during development and compliance tests, as well as the required EMI tests. The system uses the R&S ELEKTRA  EMC test software, which has been upgraded with measurement and calibration routines for 5G.

The system includes an R&S CMX500  5G radio communication tester for signal generation and the R&S ESW44  high-end EMI test receiver, which features high measurement speed in frequency ranges up to 44 GHz. The system offers a very high sensitivity of better than –40 dBm/MHz at frequencies up to 200 GHz.

The system meets the existing threshold values of the FCC (USA) and the ERC Recommendation (Europe) and enables the use of early pass/fail criteria as well as measurements with large bandwidth to shorten test times. “No other solution achieves this with standard components,” said the company.

An upgrade for 5G is available for users who already have an RSE test system from Rohde & Schwarz. The company will demonstrate this solution at the EMV 2020  trade show in Cologne, Germany, March 17–19.
