MEMS microphone targets IoT applications in harsh environments

TDK’s ICS-40638 analog MEMS microphone addresses IoT and wearable applications in harsh environments with ultra-high AOP and high-temperature operation.

TDK has released the InvenSense ICS-40638 analog MEMS microphone that addresses IoT and wearable applications, particularly in outdoor, industrial, and harsh environments. These applications typically present system design challenges around high temperature and high acoustic overload points.

TDK InvenSense ICS-40638 MEMS microphoneThe new microphone enables clear audio capture in loud and noisy conditions. The device features a high dynamic range and operates up to 105°C. It offers an ultra-high acoustic overload point (AOP) of 138 dB sound pressure level (SPL), low power operation of 170 µA, and a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 63 dB.

The ICS-40638 microphone includes a MEMS microphone element, an impedance converter, and a differential output amplifier, all housed in a small 3.5 x 2.65 x 0.98 mm bottom port surface‐mount package. Other specs include a tight ±1 dB sensitivity tolerance,  an extended frequency response from 35 Hz to 20kHz, and enhanced immunity to both radiated and conducted RF interference.

Other features include:

  • Differential non-inverting analog output
  • −43 dBV sensitivity (differential)
  • −81 dB PSRR
  • Compatible with Sn/Pb and Pb-free solder processes
  • RoHS/WEEEE compliant
