Multi-camera MIPI switch shrinks for smaller product designs

Diodes Inc. has released a multi-camera MIPI switch in a small package size to fit mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Diodes Inc. has introduced the PI3WVR628 multi-camera MIPI switch that supports high speed (HS) and low power (LP) connections to CSI/DSI, D-PHY and C-PHY modules. The 3-lane 2:1 switch measures 1.7 x 2.4 x 0.5 mm, making it suited for any device that integrates multiple camera modules, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, as well as displays.

The MIPI-compliant switch meets the needs of consumer device manufacturers as they integrate more camera modules, requiring multiplexers that are designed to work with MIPI modules, while PCB space remains limited, said the company.

Diodes multi-camera MIPI switchThe PI3WVR628 integrates six single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switches with a bandwidth of 6 GHz to control three lanes. The lanes are organized as two data lanes and one clock lane for D-PHY modules and two lanes for C-PHY modules. It also features select and output enable inputs with integrated control logic.

Providing greater design flexibility, the MIPI switch can support data rates of up to 3.5 Gbits/s for C-PHY compliant modules and 4.5 Gbits/s for D-PHY compliant modules. Other specs include a supply voltage range of 1.5 V to 3.6 V and quiescent current of 11 μA (typical), falling to a maximum of 1μA when in high-impedance mode.

The PI3WVR628 is available in the 24-X1-LGA2417-24 (XB) package and is priced at $0.49 each in quantities of 5,000.
