OmniVision Technologies, Inc. has introduced the OS02G10 security image sensor, aimed at mainstream security cameras requiring 1080p resolution and excellent low-light pixel performance. The CMOS 2-MP OS02G10 claims best-in-class low-light captures via a 2.8 micron pixel built on the OmniPixel3-HS architecture, which improves image capture under very low-light conditions. Compared with OmniVision’s previous-generation mainstream security sensor, it offers 60 percent better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR1) and 40 percent lower power consumption.
OmniVision reported that it is using 12-inch wafers to manufacture the new security image sensor instead of the 8-inch wafers that are in tight supply but are typically used for 2-MP, 1080p sensors. This enables the company meet demand for this resolution, which is the most popular for consumer-grade, IoT security cameras, as well as low-end industrial and commercial surveillance cameras.

Image sensors advance for wide-ranging applications
Other key features include a 15-degree CRA, an integrated dynamic defective pixel correction algorithm for optimal image quality, a two-lane MIPI interface, an output format of 10-bit RAW RGB, and 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. Programmable controls include frame rate, mirror and flip, cropping, and windowing. The operating temperature range is -30°C to 85°C.
Samples of the OS02G10 image sensor in a chip-scale package are available.
