Power aluminum electrolytic capacitors enable higher power density

Vishay’s new family of snap-in power aluminum electrolytic capacitors enable higher power density designs and longer useful life.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has launched a new series of miniature snap-in power aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Enabling higher power density designs, the Vishay BCcomponents 193 PUR-SI series offers up to 30% higher ripple current than standard solutions in similar case sizes.

Vishay 193-PUR-SI aluminum electrolytic capacitorThe power aluminum electrolytic capacitors handle ripple currents up to 3.27 A, and allow designers to use fewer components to save board space and lower costs. The useful life of 5,000 hours at +105 °C also enables designers to use these devices in demanding applications that require more than 25 years of lifetime in ambient temperatures up to 60°C.

The 193 PUR-SI series devices, housed in a cylindrical aluminum case insulated with a blue sleeve, feature rated voltages to 500 V and a capacitance range of 47 µF to 820 µF in 25 case sizes ranging from 22 × 25 mm to 35 × 60 mm. Other specs include a maximum equivalent series of resistance (ESR) at 100 Hz of 120 mΩ to 2800 mΩ, and maximum impedance at 10 kHz of 80 mΩ to 2060 mΩ. The RoHS-compliant capacitors are available with three-pin keyed polarity snap-in terminals.

The devices can be used for smoothing, buffering, and DC-Link filtering in switch mode power supplies, motor drives, solar inverters, industrial air conditioners, and welding equipment.

Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of 14 weeks. Pricing depends on capacitance and voltage rating. For example, the price of 220 µF/450-V devices is $3.85 per piece in quantities of 2,000.
