Precision measurement ICs can double battery life

Maxim Integrated’s high accuracy precision measurement ICs can double the battery life for IoT, industrial, and health-care applications.

Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. has added three new precision measurement ICs to its family of Essential Analog ICs. Offering high accuracy and protection, the MAX41400 instrumentation amplifier, MAX40108  precision operational amplifier, and MAX31343 real-time clock (RTC) with integrated MEMS oscillator can help double the battery life in internet of things (IoT), industrial, and health-care applications.

Maxim precision measurement ICsAimed at providing longer battery life and high accuracy for measuring voltages, forces, and pressures while withstanding extreme environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and mechanical abuse, these new devices tout extended battery life, highest accuracy, and robust protection.

Here’s what they offer.

The MAX41400 instrumentation amplifier enhances sensor system accuracy by 4× and extends battery life by 55 percent compared to the closest competitive offering, according to Maxim Integrated. In battery-operated industrial sensors, as an example, the MAX41400 extends battery life from existing 7.4 hours to 11.5 hours. The device also provides low offset of 25 µV, low noise and programmable gain with only 65 µA current consumption.

Claimed as the lowest-voltage precision operational amplifier in its class, the MAX40108 operates with supplies as low as 0.9 V compared to the closest competitive offering at 1.8 V. The combination of low operational supply voltage, lower power consumption and 25.5 µA quiescent current allows engineers to double sensor battery life, said the company.

The MAX31343 I²C RTC with an integrated MEMS oscillator provides timekeeping accuracy of ± 5 ppm, along with robust protection thanks to the MEMS resonator. The integrated resonator also eliminates crystal mechanical failures and enables a small WLP package. The device provides high accuracy timing, guaranteeing <3 min deviation per year, shock resistance of >2900G, and vibration resistance of >50G.
