Designed for IoT, robotics, AR/VR, and wearable applications, TDK Corp. has released a high-performance six-axis MEMS MotionTracking device that integrates a three-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer in a 2.5 × 3 × 0.9-mm package. The InvenSense ICM-42688-P enables high-precision motion sensing for applications such as robotics, IoT devices (wearables, drones, smart watches, etc.), gaming controllers, and augmented reality/virtual reality head-mounted displays.
Compared to traditional consumer-grade inertial measurement units (IMUs), the ICM-42688-P provides a 40% lower noise figure and improves temperature stability by 2×. This ensures that any motion event is measured with the highest accuracy, independent of temperature changes, said TDK.
The ICM-42688-P includes two features that are not available in any other consumer-grade IMU, said TDK. These are a 100% accurate clock that eliminates timing errors and a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter. The converter enables an 8× increase in gyroscope resolution and a 4× increase in accelerometer resolution.
Other features include the InvenSense on-chip APEX Motion Processing Engine for gesture recognition, activity classification, and pedometer, along with programmable digital filters and an embedded temperature sensor.
The InvenSense ICM-42688-P and DK-42688-P development platform are available through distribution.
