Trinamic improves servo motor controller with fully integrated design

Trinamic updates its TMC4671 servo controller IC with a fully integrated design, which enables rapid development of the Trinamic open-source ventilator design

Trinamic Motion Control GmbH & Co. KGhas improved its TMC4671  family with the launch of the TMC4671-LA, claiming the industry’s first fully integrated servo controller IC with field-oriented control for BLDC/PMSM, two-phase stepper motors, DC motors, and voice coils.

Thanks to input from leaders in e-mobility, robotics, lab automation, and pump and blower design over the past two years, Trinamic has fully optimized the TMC4671-LA by incorporating all required motor control functions in a single small IC. It integrates ADCs, position sensor interfaces, and position interpolators to simplify the design process.

Trinamic said that “the TMC4671-LA offloads critical real-time tasks from the processor and software by handling all motor control functions in a single, compact, servo controller IC” and enables customers “to build a servo drive in a day.”

A shorter development time is due to all of the time-critical calculations contained in the hardware, so optimizing dynamic server control requires only a few lines of code.

Trinamic also offers the open-source TMC4671+TMC6100-BOB development board that combines the dedicated TMC4671-LA servo controller IC and universal high-voltage gate driver. It allows engineers to simultaneously check how the motor performs and tune the application.

In addition, Trinamic has developed the Trinamic Open-Source Ventilator (TOSV) design project in response to high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. The TOSV uses a module based on the TMC4161-LA and TMC4671-Eval-Kit. The integrated-module PCB handles all of the driver functions and the interface to the pressure sensors.

A single-board computer such as a Raspberry Pi can be used to provide the control, user interface, and safety functions, said the company.

The TMC4671-Eval-Kit can be combined with a 2-A/24-V power stage, a 10-A/70-V power stage, or TMC6100-Eval board for complete evaluation of the servo controller IC. The TMC4671-LA is available now through Trinamic’s sales partners.
