Tektronix expands entry-level oscilloscope portfolio

Tektronix has expanded its TBS1000 series with a new entry-level oscilloscope for educators, embedded design engineers, and makers.

Keeping in mind the cost constraints of educators and makers, Tektronix Inc. has released a “cost-sensitive” addition to its TBS1000 series. The new TBS1000C digital storage oscilloscope features a 7-inch WVGA color display with up to 1 GS/s sample rate and bandwidths from 50 MHz to 200 MHz. This series also includes Tektronix’s HelpEverywhere system that provides user tips throughout the user interface.

This scope joins Tektronix’s recently introduced TBS2000B digital storage oscilloscope aimed at educators and engineers and the 3 Series mixed domain oscilloscope, which bridges entry level with higher performance oscilloscopes.

Tektronix TBS1000C oscilloscopeTektronix’s entry-level portfolio of oscilloscopes offers tiered functionality and cost. The TBS1000C is the company’s most introductory series designed for hands-on learning and easy operation, said Tektronix. Dedicated front panel controls provide easy access to important settings and new large menus with clearly labeled on-screen information allowing users to easily find data of interest, said the company.

The TBS1000C also offers several features that enable the educator to focus on teaching fundamental concepts, with the Scope Intro handbook embedded directly into the TBS1000C help system.

Features such as Autoset, Cursors and automated measurements can be disabled on the instruments, which better allows students to learn basic concepts and understand how to use the horizontal and vertical controls to get the waveform, said Tektronix. It also helps students learn how to use the graticule to measure time, voltage, and manually plot/calculate the signal characteristics.

In addition, the series provides a courseware system that integrates lab exercises with step-by-step instructions for student use. Educators can load lab exercises on the instrument to give guidance and provide a structured framework, enabling students to capture data to incorporate into their reports. Sample lab exercises are available for download from the Tektronix Courseware Resource Center.

The new TBS1000C digital storage oscilloscope is priced from $510 MSRP. The scope has a five-year warranty.
