NXP Semiconductors N.V. has launched a family of 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Dual Band + Bluetooth/BLE solutions for advanced gaming, audio, industrial and IoT markets. Delivering increased capacity, efficiency, and performance, the IW62X family of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth chip solutions targets connectivity in applications such as smart consumer IoT hubs, wireless speakers, video-enabled smart devices, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) devices as well as other IoT applications.
The IW62X family offers high integration, including 2.4- and 5-GHz dual-band power amplifiers (PAs), low noise amplifiers (LNAs), and antenna switches. It also includes a power management unit that reduces a system’s bill of materials and device board area.
The Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth chip solutions are the first to deliver a Wi-Fi 6-enabled gaming console, according to NXP. As part of the company’s wireless connectivity portfolio, the new 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 solutions are suited for advanced gaming consoles that require high-performance Wi-Fi with near zero wireless controller lag time and low-latency multi-player gaming experiences (via a single, in-room console) over wireless networks. They also offer real-time interactions for cloud-based gaming devices, clients, and services by providing high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity needed for full 4k/60 frames per second (fps) gameplay.
The 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 Dual Band + Bluetooth solutions significantly boosts speed, and offers a 4x increase in network capacity, and a 2x increase in bandwidth over previous generations of Wi-Fi, said NXP. The increased capacity coupled with the reduced latency supports a significantly higher number of users and devices connected to a network or gateway.
NXP’s Wi-Fi 6 + BT/BLE and Wi-Fi 6 + BT/BLE-Audio offer expanded capabilities. The BT/BLE radios support Bluetooth/BLE standards (BLE LR/2Mbps, BLE AoA/AoD, BLE Mesh), independent Bluetooth connections, and operational modes with multiple external devices. These capabilities enable advanced smart hub and smart home services that use Bluetooth-based positioning and Mesh connectivity, said NXP.
One related NXP processor for smart home IoT devices is the i.MX RT1170 family of crossover microcontrollers that operate up to 1 GHz with low-power efficiency for IoT, industrial, and automotive applications. The dual-core system in the i.MX1170 can run machine learning applications in parallel, such as face recognition with natural language processing to create human-like user interactivity, making it suited for smart home IoT devices.
The IW62X family of 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 Dual Band + Bluetooth solutions are available for sampling now and soon from select module partners.
