Semtech QPL Schottky diode meets space-grade qualification

Semtech’s IN5822 QPL Schottky diode meets the JANS qualification for space-grade applications, opening up new satellite and spacecraft markets.

Semtech QPL and JANS qualified Schottky diodeSemtech Corp. has announced the JANS qualification of its Qualified Products List (QPL) 1N5822 Schottky diode to space grade, opening up new satellite and spacecraft applications. JANS is the highest reliability grade for products qualified for harsh space environments and other high-reliability applications such as missiles.

The new addition, JANS1N5822, is Semtech’s first Schottky diode for use in space applications, and the second qualified manufacturer for this highly specialized diode, according to the company. The diode also is available in MELF surface-mount packaging (JANS1N5822US).

Key specifications include:

  • Reverse working voltage VRWM = 40V
  • Output current IO = 3A
  • Forward voltage drop VF = 0.5V @ 3A
  • Operating junction temperature range TJ = -65C to +125C

“Semtech’s new space-grade qualification provides another source for this popular device to our satellite and spacecraft customer base,” said Alan Burchfield, Power and High Reliability Product Line Director for Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group, in a statement. “As with the rest of the product family, this device and the die within can be used as building blocks for custom devices to match our customer’s specific needs.”

The new diode is qualified to JANS assurance level in accordance with MIL-PRF-19500 and will be available in axial and surface-mount (MELF) packages. The device will be available through the company’s authorized distributors.

This diode is part of Semtech’s range of high reliability devices. These high-reliability products include both QPL and non-QPL rectifiers, Schottky diodes, transient voltage suppressors, and Zener diodes, along with a range of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) diodes and power management ICs.
